(LED strips/ropes) Tips & Troubleshooting
General Tips and troubleshooting
- Test connections before permanent installation
- When in doubt, consult an electrician for permanent installations
Safety First
Before You Start
- Always disconnect power before making any connections or adjustments
- 5V/12V/24V DC system – While safer than mains voltage, still treat with respect and avoid touching exposed wires when powered
During Installation
Heat awareness – LED strips generate heat during operation; ensure adequate ventilation and avoid covering with insulating materials
Power Supply Safety
- Use only quality power supplies rated for your installation (see later)
- Never exceed the maximum length recommendations for your chosen power supply
Power Supply Selection Tips
Quality Matters
- Choose regulated, switching power supplies
- Look for CE marking and safety certifications
- Avoid cheap, unbranded power supplies
Installation Considerations
- Mount power supply in ventilated area
- Keep away from heat sources
- Ensure easy access for maintenance
- Use appropriate gauge wire for your run length
- Voltage Drop Protection – For installations over 2 metres from the controller to the LED strip, use thicker gauge wire (16AWG or better)
