[RD1 Series] Pairing, Reset & Drivers

Welcome to the Pairing, Reset and Drivers hub. Below you will find the required step-by-step physical knob press sequences for factory resetting, selecting your mode profile, joining a Zigbee network, and troubleshooting ecosystem-specific drivers.

Identify the root causes behind incomplete interviews, wrong-mode pairing, and general mesh setup issues.

1. Hardware Resets & Button Press Sequences

How do I factory reset the RD1-Pro?

Use 4 short presses followed by a long 5th press. The expected factory-reset confirmation is a solid red LED for about 3 seconds. Then select the required mode before pairing.

How do I put the RD1-Pro into pairing mode?

Put the Zigbee hub into permit-join/pairing mode, then use 2 short presses followed by a long 3rd press on the RD1-Pro. The expected pairing indication is green and blue LEDs flashing together.

What button/knob press sequence should I use for reset, mode selection, and pairing?

Factory reset: 4 short presses plus long 5th press, solid red LED.
Pairing: 2 short presses plus long 3rd press, green and blue flash together.
Mode selection after reset: 3 short presses for DIM with red flashing 6 times, 4 short presses for REM with green flashing 6 times, or 5 short presses for DPM with blue flashing 6 times.

Do I need to factory reset between pairing attempts?

Yes, it is good practice to factory reset between failed pairing attempts, especially if the hub saw the device, created a partial interview, or paired it in the wrong mode.

2. Smart Home Platform Drivers & Edge Quirks

Do I need custom drivers to pair the device with my smart system?

It depends on the platform. Zigbee2MQTT should work natively. SmartThings requires Candeo Edge drivers. Hubitat requires Candeo drivers. ZHA may need Candeo custom quirks if your Home Assistant version does not yet provide full built-in support.

Do I need SmartThings Edge drivers before pairing?

Yes. Install the Candeo SmartThings Edge drivers before pairing so SmartThings can identify the device and expose the correct functions. For RD1-Pro it is safest to install the drivers for all three modes.

Do I need custom ZHA quirks for Home Assistant?

Use the Candeo ZHA quirks if your Home Assistant/ZHA installation does not expose the correct entities and events natively. If your Home Assistant version already includes full support, custom quirks may not be required.

Do I need custom Hubitat drivers?

Yes. Install the Candeo Hubitat drivers, and for RD1-Pro install the relevant mode drivers so Dimmer, Remote, and Dual Purpose Mode pair correctly.

Does Zigbee2MQTT support the RD1/RD1-Pro natively?

Yes. The product guidance indicates that RD1 and RD1-Pro work out of the box with Zigbee2MQTT and that all features are supported.

3. Troubleshooting Mesh & Pairing Failures

Why will my RD1-Pro not pair with Zigbee2MQTT, ZHA, SmartThings, Hubitat, or another Zigbee hub?

Common causes are reversed live/load, no hub permit-join, an incomplete long press, failure to reset, wrong mode selection, missing drivers/quirks, too much distance from the coordinator, a weak mesh, or a previous failed interview stuck in the hub.

What should I check if the device does not appear after enabling permit-join?

Check LED feedback first. If you cannot see the LEDs, remove the knob. Confirm the pairing sequence includes a long enough final press, reset again, move closer to the coordinator if possible, check that live and load are correct, and remove any stale failed device entry from the hub.

Should I power-cycle Home Assistant or my Zigbee coordinator after removing a wrongly paired device?

If the device was paired in the wrong mode or removed after a failed interview, a full Home Assistant/Zigbee coordinator restart or power cycle can help clear stale state before you reset, select mode, and pair again.

What should I do if the RD1-Pro was previously paired in the wrong mode?

Remove it from the Zigbee system, restart the hub if needed, factory reset the RD1-Pro, select the correct mode, then pair it again with the correct drivers/quirks already installed.

What information should I send support for pairing issues?

Send the Zigbee platform, hub/coordinator model, selected mode, model string shown if any, exact press sequences used, LED feedback observed, whether reset was performed between attempts, a wiring photo with power safely isolated, and logs/screenshots from the Zigbee system.
