1. Mode Explanations & Choosing Profiles

Which mode should I use: Dimmer Mode, Remote Mode, or Dual Purpose Mode?

Use Dimmer Mode for normal smart dimming of wired non-smart lamps. Use Remote Mode when the knob should act as a Zigbee remote, especially for smart bulbs on the same circuit that must remain permanently powered. Use Dual Purpose Mode when you want a hub-controlled wired dimmer endpoint plus separate remote-control events from the knob.

What is Dimmer Mode?

Dimmer Mode is the standard mode for a traditional dimmable lighting circuit. The knob and hub control the connected light circuit directly. The firmware/model identifier is typically C-ZB-RD1P-DIM.

What is Remote Mode / Smart Bulb Mode?

Remote Mode decouples the knob from the wired circuit. The wired circuit remains powered and the knob sends Zigbee events to the hub. This is the mode to use when the RD1-Pro is wired to the same circuit as smart bulbs, because smart bulbs need permanent power. The identifier is typically C-ZB-RD1P-REM.

What is Dual Purpose Mode?

Dual Purpose Mode creates two functions: Endpoint 1 is a hub-controllable dimmable light for the wired circuit, and Endpoint 2 is a remote-control endpoint that sends button and rotary events. It is for mixed or automation-led use cases with conventional wired lights, not for dimming a smart-bulb circuit.

Can I use DPM mode with smart bulbs on the wired circuit?

Do not use DPM for smart bulbs on the same wired circuit. DPM creates a dimmable wired-light endpoint, and smart bulbs should not be electrically dimmed. Use Remote Mode for smart bulbs on the same circuit.

Can I use REM mode with no physical light load?

Yes, if the official wiring method is followed and an LED bypass is used as the dummy load where required. This is an advanced no-load Remote Mode installation and should be wired carefully.

2. Pairing Workflows & Hub Identification

Can I switch modes after setup?

Yes, but mode selection happens before pairing. To change mode, remove the device from the Zigbee system, factory reset it, select the new mode, and pair it again.

Why does mode selection need to happen before pairing?

The selected mode changes how the device identifies itself, which endpoints it exposes, and which drivers or quirks the hub uses. If the device is paired in the wrong mode, the hub may create the wrong entities and events.

Do I need to factory reset the RD1-Pro before changing modes?

Yes. Factory reset first, then select the desired mode, then pair again. If it was already paired, remove it from the hub before re-pairing.

What happens if I pair the RD1-Pro in the wrong mode?

The hub may show the wrong device type or endpoints, button events may be missing, smart bulbs may be exposed to dimming when they should not be, or the device may behave as a normal dimmer instead of a remote. Remove, reset, select the correct mode, and re-pair.

Why does the RD1-Pro show as C-ZB-RD1P-REM or another variant in Home Assistant / Zigbee2MQTT?

The model string reflects the mode selected before pairing. C-ZB-RD1P-DIM indicates Dimmer Mode, C-ZB-RD1P-REM indicates Remote Mode, and C-ZB-RD1P-DPM indicates Dual Purpose Mode.

3. Zigbee Endpoints & Automation Control

Can I use DPM mode to control wired lights and still keep button events?

Yes. DPM is intended for that style of use. Endpoint 1 is the wired dimmer endpoint controlled by the hub, while Endpoint 2 sends remote events that can be used in automations, including automations that control Endpoint 1.

Why does DPM mode create two devices/endpoints in my Zigbee system?

Because Dual Purpose Mode exposes both a dimmable-light function and a remote-control function. Some platforms show these as two entities, devices, or endpoints.

What is Endpoint 1 used for?

Endpoint 1 is the dimmable light endpoint for the wired circuit in Dimmer Mode and DPM. In DPM it is controlled by the hub, not directly by the physical knob.

What is Endpoint 2 used for?

Endpoint 2 is the remote-control endpoint used in Remote Mode and DPM. It sends events such as press, double press, hold, release, rotate left, and rotate right to the Zigbee hub for automations.
